Local moving across the whole DMV

Our local service is built around the Washington metropolitan region. From family homes in Montgomery County to Northern Virginia townhouses and DC rowhouses, we plan around your home and your move. Our registered address is in Germantown; our local focus is the broader DMV.

Moving a whole house

A full-house move is more than the main rooms. Include the garage, basement, attic, sheds, and patio furniture in your inventory, and tell us about large pieces such as sectionals, dressers, dining sets, and exercise equipment. We wrap furniture in moving blankets, take apart and reassemble beds and tables when needed, and size the crew and trucks to the volume of your home. Tell us where the truck can park, in the driveway or on the street, and whether your community has HOA moving rules.

  • Garage, basement, attic, and outdoor furniture
  • Large and heavy furniture, with disassembly and reassembly
  • Driveway or street parking for one or more trucks
  • Moving from a condo or apartment? Send the elevator and loading dock rules too.

From a family home to an office move

We can help with furniture protection, loading, transport, unloading, and agreed assembly or disassembly. For office moves, include the furniture, equipment, building access windows, and any items that need special handling. Ask about packing if you would like help before moving day.

Moving out of the DMV?

A move to another state is a different kind of move, and it is our main service. Interstate moves are regulated by the federal government and must be handled by a licensed interstate carrier; ours is U.S. DOT No. 3467429 and MC 1654219. Instead of an hourly rate, the price is based on the volume of your shipment and the route, with a written estimate, insurance as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation, and a delivery window. Eligible long-distance moves include up to 30 days of free storage.

Local moving rates in the DMV

Hourly rates are the same seven days a week. Your crew size and the number of trucks depend on how much you are moving, so larger homes get more movers and the job finishes sooner.

Local DMV hourly rates
CrewMoving, per hourWith full packing, per hourVolume this crew handles
2 movers$150$215Up to 500 cu. ft.
3 movers$195$260500–1,600 cu. ft.
4 movers$242$3071,600–2,000 cu. ft.
5 movers$282$3472,000–3,200 cu. ft.
6 movers$322$3873,200–4,200 cu. ft.
7+ moversCall for a quoteOver 4,200 cu. ft.
  • 3-hour minimum for every local move.
  • Travel time is billed at the crew's hourly rate and added to the minimum.
  • $99 fuel charge per move.
  • Full packing adds $65 per hour to the crew rate.

Example: the smallest local move, 2 movers for the 3-hour minimum, is $450 plus travel time and the $99 fuel charge.

Why we need to know what you're moving

Some movers give a quick price over the phone based on the number of bedrooms, and then the bill changes on moving day. We would rather get it right before you book. Two homes with the same number of bedrooms can hold very different amounts of furniture and boxes, and what you are moving decides:

  • How many movers we send. The crew, and its hourly rate, is set by the total volume, as shown in the table above.
  • How many trucks. One truck carries up to 1,600 cubic feet. A second truck is added above 1,600 cubic feet and a third above 3,200.
  • How long the move takes. Each mover handles about 50 cubic feet per hour, so the right crew size keeps your hours down.
  • What needs special handling. Heavy, fragile, or oversized pieces, and furniture that has to be taken apart, need the right equipment on the truck.

When we know what is moving, the right crew and trucks arrive on moving day and your estimate reflects the real job.

Send us photos or a video

The easiest way is a short walk-through video on your phone, or photos of each room. Email them to sales@gorillahaulers.com with your name and moving date. Show every room, closets, the garage, basement, patio, and any storage unit, and point out anything heavy, fragile, or oversized.

What our customers say

“In June 2025, after 37 years, we moved from a large 3 story, 4 bedroom house to a nearby smaller rancher. Even after purging, we had 100 boxes, furniture, and a lot of outdoor furniture. Unique to us I expect, is we also had a concrete 8 ft tall statue and heavy planters. Eli and Wilson’s team handled the complex, heavy move without a hitch. Extremely professional, careful, and friendly.”

★★★★★Patrick C. · 4-bedroom house move · Google review

“These guys are the "BOMB!!!" They moved the contents of my whole 3000 square foot home. The team is extremely professional; it's workflow through the whole moving process reminded me of a Leonard Bernstein orchestra playing in the presence of the Royal Family sprinkled with a few moments of your best Seinfeld episode. I plan to use them again in two weeks for another large move which says a lot. Is there a place where I can give them a 100+ star rating?”

★★★★★Jang B. · Whole 3,000 sq ft home · Google review

“From the very beginning, speaking with Eli and getting scheduled for my move (with an estimated timeframe of 6 hours) was a smooth process. The communication was excellent. The day of my move, Wilson stayed in contact with me up until his arrival, which I truly appreciated. Meeting Wilson and Jay in person was an absolute pleasure! Both were professional, their customer service was a “100,” and they handled my belongings with great care. Here’s the best part — although my estimated move time was 6 hours, Wilson and Jay moved everything out of my storage unit and into my home in just 4 hours! They were efficient, respectful, and simply amazing. If you’re looking for a moving company that delivers professionalism, clear communication from start to finish, and a solid team of great guys — GO Gorilla Haulers!!!”

★★★★★Latanya S. · Storage unit to home · Price paid: $600–800 · “Reasonable price” · Google review

“Wilson and his team made my move seamless. The last move I did with another company made it so difficult. I came across his company and I’m so happy I did. They were efficient and careful with all of my furniture. Can’t recommend them enough!! No better moving company in the DMV.”

★★★★★Jovanni C. · DMV move · Google review

“Our moving team from Gorilla Haulers was wonderful! They were on time, extremely professional, and took painstaking care to make sure all of our furniture, walls and doorways were thoroughly protected the entire time. Every item was wrapped, loaded, unloaded, and put away in our new location without a single scratch. Highly recommend them to anyone!”

★★★★★Marcy E. · Local move · Price paid: $1,000–1,200 · “Reasonable price” · Google review

Frequently asked questions

How much do local movers cost in the DMV?

Local DMV rates start at $150 per hour for 2 movers, with a 3-hour minimum plus travel time and a $99 fuel charge per move. Larger homes get larger crews: 3 movers are $195 per hour, 4 movers are $242 per hour, 5 movers are $282 per hour, 6 movers are $322 per hour. Full packing adds $65 per hour.

What should I prepare for a local moving estimate?

Share both ZIP codes, your preferred date, home size, furniture inventory, stairs, and building access details. Include large or fragile items and whether you need packing.

Do you move offices in the DMV?

Yes. We help with commercial and office moves. Tell us about your furniture, equipment, building restrictions, and preferred schedule so we can discuss the scope.

Can you help with furniture assembly?

Tell us which furniture needs disassembly or reassembly. Our team will review the items and confirm what is included in your moving plan.

Is a deposit required to book a local move?

A reservation deposit of up to 35% of your moving quote may be required. The amount depends on the move size, location, and applicable discounts. Your deposit is credited toward the total cost of the move. Check your estimate for the amount required to reserve your date.

How do I cancel a local move, and is the deposit refundable?

Send your cancellation in writing to sales@gorillahaulers.com. Booking deposits are refundable only when you cancel at least 72 hours before your original moving date. A cancellation made at pickup after the crew arrives is non-refundable. Use your original moving date when checking the deadline.

What furniture handling is included in a local move?

The estimate includes moving blankets for furniture, loading and unloading, an itemized inventory recording condition, and disassembly of standard furniture when needed for safe moving. Items the crew disassembles are reassembled at delivery, provided the necessary tools and parts are available. Elaborate furniture may need extra labor or specialist servicing, so tell your estimator about it before booking.

Are packing, unpacking, and materials included?

Packing, unpacking, and materials cost extra unless they are specifically listed in your estimate. Supplies such as boxes, tape, bubble wrap, and shrink wrap are not automatically included. Tell us about TVs, mirrors, glass tabletops, artwork, and other items that may need protective packing so the cost can be discussed before moving day.

Do the movers disconnect and reconnect appliances?

Appliance disconnection and reconnection are not included in the moving estimate. Arrange for appliances to be disconnected and prepared before pickup, and for reconnection at the destination.

Can stairs, elevators, or truck access add to the cost?

Yes. Extra stairs, elevator use, a long carry between the truck and the home, or a shuttle truck can add charges if they are not already included in the estimate. Describe access at both addresses before booking so the team can review the applicable charges with you.

What items should I keep out of the moving truck?

Keep passports, important documents, money, jewelry, and medications with you. Our prohibited-item list includes ammunition, fireworks, gasoline, propane tanks, aerosol cans, paint and paint thinners, cleaning chemicals, live plants, and perishables. Ask the team before packing an item you are unsure about.
